Can confirm: migrating between servers is indeed easy

After mastodon.social was down the whole day yesterday, I figured I give this a try and migrated to qubit-social.xyz.

@qottmann does it mean that you now have two accounts or that all the info on your original account is now on the new server? How do you do it?

@lukyluket So the process was really easy:
1. Create new account on new server
2. Choose migrate FROM on new server
3. Choose migrate TO on old server
4. Success

The way I understand it is that now all people that I originally followed and followed me, automatically continue to do so on the new account. The old account is automatically deactivated afterwards and redirects people ending up there to the new one.

@lukyluket Thanks.

There are some caveats that I realize now: Previous posts and DMs are not moved apparently, though there is a way to manually retrieve them (but aint nobody got time for that)

@mwalschaers @lukyluket I am actually not sure. My new profile said following XX and I think that number must have been roughly the number of people I followed before.

However my timeline was
initially empty, so just to be sure I clicked follow on whoever I crossed paths. Not sure if this was just delayed in the process because it does say that your account is not functioning properly right after you migrate. Do you know specifics about this? Like what _should_ happen?

@qottmann @lukyluket aha, in my case it said 0 following, so I guess I did something in the wrong order.
